Žabljak and Durmitor
Žabljak is the main base for visiting Durmitor National Park. Black Lake offers a straightforward introduction to the landscape, with paths around the water and views toward the mountain slopes. Longer hikes need their own route planning and suitable weather. The Tara canyon and Savin Kuk ski area add other reasons to return in different seasons, although each requires a separate outing and current operating information.
Plužine and Piva
Plužine and Piva lie in another direction. Piva Lake is a reservoir, and understanding its creation makes the visit more interesting: Piva Monastery was moved from its former site when the hydroelectric project flooded the valley. The lakeside town is a starting point for boat trips and exploring the surrounding country. On the canyon road, allow time for bends, tunnels and stops.
Brezna
Brezna lies between Nikšić and Plužine. Ethno Village Montenegro is one of the lodging businesses established there, combining a rural setting with meals and activities. Brezna can suit a shorter stop or an overnight stay on a Piva trip. Confirm restaurant and lodging availability for your dates.
Routes from Krnovo
From Krnovo, the route toward Šavnik continues toward Žabljak. The Piva direction runs through the Jasenovo Polje intersection toward Plužine. Allow a separate day for each area so there is time to stop and explore.
Šavnik, Pošćenje and Nevidio fit naturally into the Durmitor direction. For an outing centered on the plateau itself, Vučje has a separate range of summer and winter activities.
